An old woman from Samara, Russia battles cancer.
Kristina Syrchikova was with her on a daily basis during the last year of her life. The somber photographs tell of the suffering of a sick woman who tried everything she could to heal her stomach cancer. Cancer patients in Russian hospitals often receive insufficient care, and may be considered a waste of time or treated as a burden. In some cases, they are even sent home to die. After many courses of treatment, chemotherapy, and alternative healing methods, she gives up the fight. She begins to sew the dress in which she will be buried.
